The following poem is beautifully written by one of our beautiful book club besties. While not written for our club, she notes that it is very appropriate for how we all feel about our love of reading.
Read between the Lines
By Meg Drey
My head hits the moss covered ground;
The trees grow and bend to my will,
Raising above me, the heavens no longer in view.
I release the breath I have been holding, lying still.
My eyes have never been more open;
My lungs have never able to breathe so clearly;
My heart has never beat with so much passion;
I have never loved life so dearly.
The fierce battle cry of the dragons
Surround the empty space.
My sword tucked tightly,
Blood dripping down my face.
My body does not deny me,
The strength I have holds true.
My legs push me back up
Despite what I have just fought through.
The wind cusps my face,
And escapes through my hair.
When I hear reality calling,
My mind crowds with despair.
The words on the page, give me my escape;
The worlds they build are much better than my own.
I would rather read by myself,
To finally not feel so alone.
